Tomorrow I am turning 27 years old. As much as I have tried to convince myself that I am still 25 (for the third time) there is no denying the truth of the matter!
This year, I decided to celebrate my 27th birthday by doing 27 random acts of kindness (you’ll see more about that later!). One of the things I’m doing for my random acts of kindness is delivering bags and bags and bags of the ridiculously delicious Supremely Spicy Snack Mix to the post office for all of the mailmen in our town! People who work rain, snow, sleet, ice or sunshine are very deserving of kind gestures in my opinion! I like to surprise our mailman with treats and goodies in our mailbox especially on cold rainy days. I’ve left him cookies, brownies, cupcakes, puppy chow, you name it. But, something tells me this is going to be his favorite surprise yet!
I bought all of the ingredients at Aldi, which makes this super affordable and guilt free! This is so easy to make, so dangerously addicting, and easy on the wallet… could it be too good to be true?!
Supremely Spicy Snack Mix
2 (10oz) packages oyster crackers
1 (150z) package of cheddar flavored party mix
1 (9.5oz) box of mini cheese sandwich crackers
1 lb 14oz Deluxe mixed nuts (Cashews, Almonds, Brazil nuts, Pecans and Hazelnuts)
5 (1 ounce packages Ranch dressing mix)
2 1/2 teaspoons dried dill weed
1 3/4 cups vegetable oil
Dashes of hot sauce – to your liking
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon pepper
1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
2 Tablespoons crushed red pepper (more depending on how hot you want it!)
2 Tablespoons cayenne pepper, plus more for sprinkling over the mix after it comes out of the oven (more depending on how hot you want it!)
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
In a LARGE bowl, combine all of the crackers and nuts.
In a medium sized bowl, combine the vegetable oil, hot sauce, and all of the seasonings, whisking well until completely combined.
Pour the oil mixture over the crackers and nuts, stir well until everything is completely covered.
Bake on half sheet pans or baking sheets for 20 minutes, stirring the pans after 10 minutes. As soon as the mixture comes out of the oven, sprinkle with more cayenne pepper and toss to coat!
Let cool, and store in an air tight container or plastic bags. You’ve been warned, this is ridiculously addicting!!!
